Did I forget to mention?

My daughter Jean made the Dean's List.

I think Mr. Langenscheidt will pay her a congratulatory visit.

Mr. Langenwhatsis is Mr. Langenscheidt. Langenscheidt publishes a German-English dictionary very popular with English speaking students of German because it is a very popular dictionary with teachers of English speaking students of German.

Once upon a time Jean won a fabulous award because of her excellent use of German. For some reason that still makes no sense to either of us or anyone who has thought about it, the token given to her when she was called up to the stage to be recognized was a copy of the Langenscheidt German dictionary. Of course the girl already owned and used the copy she already owned which was identical to the one bestowed upon her.

Hence the "Langenscheidt" became one of the customs in our life. A Langenscheidt is now a present for Lauren from her mother, given without necessity, reason, or excuse. It might be a book, it may be a coveted shirt, it could be anything that gives the girl a lift and a reminder that she is noticed and appreciated by her mom.
